Understanding the Photography Pricing Structure and Booking Process for Family Photos
Hey there! I’m Amy, your friendly neighborhood photographer, and I totally get it—figuring out the pricing structure and booking process between all of the different local family photographers can feel like deciphering an ancient scroll. With 20 years of capturing precious moments under my belt, I’m here to help you navigate this maze. So, let’s dive into this topic and shed some light.
Pricing Confusion
You’re excited about getting beautiful family photos, but then you hit a wall: pricing. What’s a session fee? Why aren’t digital files included? And why does it seem so complicated? Trust me, you’re not alone in feeling this way. It’s a common frustration, and I’m here to untangle it for you.
You’ve finally wrangled everyone’s schedules, coordinated outfits, and bribed the kids with promises of ice cream. You’re ready to book a family photo session. But then you look at the pricing page and it feels like you need a degree in finance to understand it.
Loya, a mom of three from Temecula, recently shared her experience with me. She was overwhelmed by how differently each photographer charged for their services. She wondered why some charge a session fee with portraits and files sold separately. While others charge a flat fee for the session and 10 or 20 digital files included. Loya almost gave up on booking a session because of this confusion.
Breaking Down the Pricing Structure
Session Fee
At my studio, I charge a session fee and sell the portraits and files from your session separately. This keeps your final product options wide open. Most people are unsure of what they want initially. So, it’s helpful to see the final images before deciding on what products you’ll want. The session fee covers my shooting time and expertise, as well as the costs associated with styling, planning, and reviewing your session.
Digital Files, Prints, Albums and Wall Portraits
Digital files and portraits are sold separately because they cater to different needs and preferences. Some families want beautiful framed wall art, while others prefer digital files for sharing online. I’m a full-service studio, which means that I offer many different options. This flexibility allows you to choose what’s best for your family.
Packages
I offer a variety of packages to suit different needs and budgets. Whether you want a few select prints or an entire album of memories, there’s a package for you. Check out my pricing page for details.
